Through Resolution no. 16/2026/M, the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira expressed its deep concern regarding the situation of Portuguese citizens detained in Venezuela, demanding a strengthening of national and European diplomatic action.
Although the document acknowledges the recent release of Pedro Fernandes, Manuel Ferreira, Carla da Silva, and Jaime Orlando dos Reis Macedo, it highlights that they remain under restrictive measures. The resolution also identifies four citizens who remain detained:
The Assembly recommends that the Government of the Republic intensify diplomatic efforts, promote concerted action with the European Union and strategic partners such as the United States of America, and ensure permanent consular support for the families. The resolution will also be sent to the European Commission, urging a more active role for European institutions in defending these citizens.
The Madeira Government has authorized a 30-day extension for the formalization of housing purchases under the public offer OPCC 1/2024.
The Regional Government has authorized the signing of 19 program contracts with youth and student associations for the year 2026.
The Regional Government of Madeira has updated the funding for the Lar Santo Antonio project, raising the total amount to over 2.3 million euros for the creation of 47 new places.
